Somme 1916 : The Strip of Murdered Nature: 2 July 1916-18 November 1916

This book tells the story of the troops who fought on the Somme, and takes the reader to the places where they fought, (as the publishers say) in the hope that the reader may gain some understanding of their experiences and their suffering. The book is beautifully produced, with endless images from the time of the battle, plus an almost equal number of wonderful colour images of the present state of the battlefields. The book could easily be used as a really excellent introduction to the battle.
