There is a Foreword by Major-General J.M.Cowan, Chairman of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) Association.
There was recently discovered in a wooden chest unopened for over 100 years a treasure trove of eloquent trench diaries, letters and poetry. The author was Hamish Mann, a young Black Watch subaltern, killed in France just 5 days after his 21st birthday.
This book is the result of that discovery.
We choose memoirs etc very carefully as there are so many, but this one seems to be one which should be in the Collection.
