Fax was an engineering graduate of MIT. He spent the first eight years of his career conducting research and tactical studies in submarine warfare for the US Navy. He co-founded the Cadmus Group, which specialises in environmental protection and homeland security.
He was a member of The Western Front Association, The Society for Military History, The National WW1 Museum and Memorial, and the Army Historical Foundation.
